William Townsend
Associate Counsellor
Whatever brought you here, I’d love an opportunity to hear you and work with you, so you can move forward with confidence.
I am a counsellor and member of the BACP. I studied at both the Gestalt Centre and The Metanoia Institute in humanistic counselling for four years in London before setting up in Cambridge to practice privately and with local charities. I work humanistically, this is a style of therapy I’m trained in. Essentially this means I believe you are the expert on you, and my job is to understand what makes you ‘you’ as much as possible. I work with a holistic perspective, believing that you are more than the sum of your parts, but each part of you impacts the rest, and that balance can sometimes be a key.
Therapy is unique to each person, and how I work will change in response to you. This means it’s hard to define exactly how we will work together. However, my attention to curiosity and compassion can support the expansion of your awareness and hold adversity and challenges with the care it requires. Once we build a relationship, and if it feels right, I may offer ideas, experiments, or an appropriate challenge to help integrate the work into your daily life and facilitate bold discoveries.
I want to make sure you get the most out of your time with me, and part of my process includes understanding how you would like to work. We will work towards you feeling capable to deal with issues without me, in your own way.
I’m open to all clients, & I have a particular passion for men’s mental health, and masculinity. This applies irrespective of your biological sex, or gender.
